Albania

Albania quickly became one of my top 10 beach destinations and honestly, I didn’t see it coming. It has this raw, untouched beauty that made me feel like I’d discovered a secret Mediterranean escape. Here’s why it completely won me over:

  • Breathtaking beaches without the crowds – Ksamil, Himara, and Dhermi have crystal-clear waters and soft sand, but without the chaos of more touristy spots like Mykonos or Dubrovnik.

  • Incredible value for money – I enjoyed beachside dinners of fresh seafood and local wine for under €10, and stayed in a central hotel in Saranda with sea views at a fraction of the cost of nearby countries.

  • The warmest hospitality – Everywhere I went, locals were kind, curious, and genuinely welcoming. I was invited to a beach club, offered travel tips, and felt safe and appreciated as a visitor.

  • Delicious Mediterranean food with a twist – From grilled calamari to flaky byrek, the food was fresh, flavorful, and deeply comforting.

  • That feeling of discovery – There’s something magical about visiting a place that isn’t yet overrun by tourism. Albania gave me that sense of freedom and surprise I hadn’t felt in a long time.

If you're craving a beach destination that’s affordable, beautiful, and still feels like a well-kept secret—Albania is calling. The best way to reach Sarande, is to fly into Corfu, Greece and take the speed boat 45 minutes across into Albania!

Croatia

Croatia has firmly earned its place in my top 10 beach destinations, and honestly, it lived up to every bit of the hype. With its blend of historic charm, crystal-clear Adriatic waters, and hundreds of islands to explore, it felt like the perfect mix of culture and coastal escape. Here’s what made it unforgettable for me:

  • Stunning beaches with crystal-clear water – Whether it was lounging at Banje Beach in Dubrovnik, swimming in hidden coves around Hvar, or catching the sunset from Kasjuni Beach in Split, every spot felt like a scene from a travel magazine.

  • The perfect mix of old-world charm and coastal bliss – Wandering Dubrovnik’s ancient walls, getting lost in the marble streets of Split, and sipping cocktails by Hvar’s yacht-filled harbor felt like stepping into a dream.

  • Island vibes with a touch of luxury – Hvar had this amazing energy—laid-back by day, vibrant by night. Think lazy swims, chic beach bars, and watching sailboats drift by with a glass of local wine in hand.

  • Incredible food with a sea view – From fresh seafood pastas in Split to grilled fish feasts in Hvar, the coastal Croatian cuisine was a highlight. Everything tasted fresh, local, and prepared with love.

  • Easy to explore, hard to leave – Ferries between Split and Hvar made island-hopping a breeze, and each destination felt unique yet connected. I loved how I could pack in both adventure and total relaxation in just a few days. Check out their ferry connections here.

If you’re after a beach getaway with history, beauty, and serious Mediterranean soul, Croatia—especially Dubrovnik, Hvar, and Split—is exactly where you need to be.
